
Institution: The
Petroleum Institute was created in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as
a world-class institution in engineering education and research in areas of
significance to the oil and gas and the broader energy industries. The PI’s
sponsors and affiliates include Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and four major
international oil/energy companies. The campus has modern instructional
laboratories and classroom facilities and is now in the planning phase of three
major research centers on its campus. The PI is affiliated with the Colorado
School of Mines, the University of Maryland (College Park), and Leoben and Linz
Universities. PI is in the process of developing future working relationships
with other major universities and research institutions around the world to

Services Librarian
(Information
Literacy and Reference Librarian) – Library
Position Description :
The Library of the
Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi invites applications from ALA or equivalent
professionally accredited librarians for the position of Information Services
Librarian (information literacy and reference librarian). Applicants must
combine a strong background of information literacy and reference in an academic
environment. Applicants must have demonstrated/documented evidence of successful
experience in an information literacy program and in a reference department of
an academic library. The Library is experiencing rapid growth in its collections
and services.
Responsibilities:
The
responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Provide
instructional services and reference to students, faculty, staff, and other
members of the Petroleum Institute community
·
Develop a
comprehensive approach to library instructional services
·
Consult on in-depth
research inquiries and facilitate end-user searches
·
Develop, promote and
instruct library users in topic and course integrated sessions on the use of
electronic information systems, library research techniques and general library
resources and services
·
Prepare print and
electronic instruction tools
·
Assist in monitoring
and developing reference web pages
·
Serve as a liaison
librarian to one of the PI Programs
·
Contribute to PI
community by participating in PI committees
·
Keep up-to-date on
issues and trends in librarianship at the local, regional, national, and
international levels
·
Help define
information literacy objectives by discipline, to design/refine library-based
assignments
·
Provide input on the
design of the library’s web image/web site
REQUIREMENTS:
·
An ALA accredited
MLS degree or equivalent
·
Teaching skills and
experience in information literacy instruction
·
Demonstrated/documented
evidence of successful performance in a reference department of an automated
academic library
·
Teaching skills and
experience in information literacy instruction
·
Experience providing
reference service
·
Evidence of
effective interpersonal communication, analytical and organizational skills and
the ability to work as part of a team based organization
·
Experience with a
range of information technologies for web-based services
·
Commitment to
excellent client services to a culturally diverse user base
·
Demonstrated
capacity to foster and manage change
·
Ability to lead,
envision, and plan for future directions
·
Minimum 3 to 5 years
library experience with at least two years focused on information literacy
instruction
PREFERRED:
·
Knowledge of trends
and issues facing international libraries
·
Additional
study/degree in the physical science and/or engineering fields
·
Experience in a
scientific or engineering academic library
·
Ability to work
independently or collaboratively
·
Skill in advancing
ongoing partnerships and alliances within the PI community and beyond

Ability to
understand and work effectively within a complex academic environment

International
library experience
·
Active in
professional organizations and displays a desire to work in newly developed
professional associations
Salary / Benefits:
The
total compensation package includes
