With the planned
implementation of a 4-year undergraduate programme as part of Hong Kong’s
academic policy and the goal of continually providing an appropriate suite of
innovative and responsive services to our users, the Information Services
section seeks two service-oriented librarians to join its team. While
continually strengthening its historical commitment to “whole person education”,
the University is currently redesigning its undergraduate curriculum, expanding
its postgraduate programmes, placing an increased emphasis on research
excellence, and adopting outcomes-based teaching and learning principles. How
will this affect the Library’s roles, resources, services, and spaces? We invite
you to help us answer this important and exciting question. The successful
applicants will have the opportunity to work with a highly dedicated and
imaginative team that has recently begun to re-envision the Library in light of
new institutional priorities. Reporting to the Head of Information Services, the
appointees will be responsible for providing high quality reference, research
and instructional services in a variety of modes – in person, on our website,
through instructional/promotional materials, in user-populated web environments,
and throughout the University’s learning environments. Special projects, liaison
roles with faculty, and a wide variety of public service duties will be integral
to both positions. Shift duties for evenings/weekends/holidays are required.
Applicants must possess an MLS or equivalent qualification (local or
overseas) and be able to demonstrate current knowledge of academic library
resources, systems, services and trends. He/She must have strong interpersonal
and presentation skills, and be able to work independently and collaboratively
with people inside and outside of the library. Demonstrated interest and
aptitude for technology-related projects that improve/expand information
services are necessary. Excellent communication skills in English are required,
and at least one of the two available positions requires Chinese language
(preferably Putonghua) as well. Experience in providing library instruction is
highly desirable; and, genuine enjoyment of teaching and assisting users is
essential.
Salary will be commensurate with qualification and
experience.
